FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MIAMI, FL. (February 14, 2019)—HaloVino® is honored to support the 2019 Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF®), February 20-24, in Miami Beach, Florida. HaloVino®’s shatterproof, stemless wine glasses will be used for wine and cocktails at SOBEWFF®’s Marriott Bonvoy™ North Venue, February 20-23rd.
The objective of HaloVino®’s sustainability initiative is to reduce landfill waste. SOBEWFF® is one of the country’s premier food & wine festivals, welcoming over 60,000 guests last year. To date, the Festival has raised more than $28 million in support of its mission to EAT, DRINK, EDUCATE with the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University.
HaloVino®’s shatterproof glasses are both dishwasher-safe and recyclable. Invented by former sommelier, Jessica Bell, HaloVino®’s shape is designed for optimal wine appreciation while its portable and dishwasher-safe construction promotes ease of transport and reuse.
HaloVino® will use signage and volunteers to encourage SOBEWFF® guests to reuse their HaloVino® each night with a challenge called “Live it Up with One Cup™”. Bell also formed a partnership with KW Plastics out of Troy, Alabama. When SOBEWFF® guests drop their HaloVino® in one of their recycle bins, HaloVino® will ensure the waste is transported to KW Plastics for reprocessing into new products.
“Sustainability is something that is at the forefront of everyone’s mind, and I’m thrilled that HaloVino® can be a part of the solution,” commented Bell. “Our durable construction and relatively low price-point make HaloVino® ideal for reuse at large-scale events, both at the event and at home.”
“I also refused to believe there was no way to recycle all that waste,” Bell added. “I endeavored to use contacts and creativity over complexity and cost to close the loop and, in essence, find a new life for any HaloVino® cups not reused and taken home.” Bell continued, “It could cost as little as pennies per cup for festivals to go landfill-free on their drinkware in the near future.”
“SOBEWFF® has been so innovative, sustainable-minded and forward-thinking for allowing HaloVino® to launch this small sustainability pilot with the hopes that we’ll be better informed on how to reduce landfill waste at outdoor events in the future.”
